This illustrated video from NASA is BY FAR the best representation of considerations to be taken for life on the moon, or elsewhere for that matter. Amazingly, when boiled down, it really is that simple.
From time to time, revisiting this simplicity helps keep things in perspective for us brainiac engineers and life system technicians. In fact, communicating at this level will help us all reach the masses out there to encourage the futurist way of thinking that we need to advance human colonization - here, there, and elsewhere.
My $.02 for NASA...don't forget about our sea to space analogs. Creating model environments and habitats right here in our backyard will expedite the learning curve and allow for the enabling technologies and techniques to take our species just about anywhere imaginable.
